1/23/2024 0 Comments Space age lodge restaurantIt's fun to take pictures of the sign and the outside of the entrance to the lobby, but that about wraps up the grins and giggles. The Space Age Lodge was unpleasantly expensive, and very little of the "Space Age" part ends up inside the rooms. Ever since I discovered this place existed I wanted to stay here on our road trip through Arizona.Through a bizarre chain of circumstances we got stuck in Gila Bend for two nights. It is pretty much exactly as the review state. It does a great job of taking it's theme and running with it throughout the hotel and restaurant. The rooms were nice, clean, and spacious with nice space themed decor. The restaurant was nice, the food good, the service very pleasant and courteous. I can't say how often they run, but they are only a problem when they blow their horn, which they seem to do with some frequency. Someone at the front desk told my mom that the trains stopped at 11pm, but that turned out to be false. To be honest I'm a pretty heavy sleeper and only noticed one train in the middle of the night. My mom and my daughter were much more bothered by the noise. I wasn't even sure I had heard the trains at night, but they both confirmed that yes, the trains had been going all night long :( That is the only reason I can't give this place higher marks because I do love a theme hotel, it's just fun and we had fun staying here. We have stayed at this Best Western before and with our previous experience here, returned as we finished our annual road trip to the midwest. The experience this time was good with the check-in handled very efficiently by the clerk, who was very customer service oriented, the room was warm and inviting with all basic furnishing in working order. The property has a working swimming pool and ice can be picked up at the front desk. We ate at the restaurant for both dinner and used the $20. coupon for breakfast and found the food tasty with generous portions and reasonably priced. The service was excellent and the small gift shop was inviting. The only negative is that we were charged a $20. but when we made the reservations by phone, we inquired about a pet fee and were told there was no fee and checking the motel's web site, it did not mention a pet fee, and the print directory for the motel also did NOT mention a pet fee, although all sources for this motel welcomed pets. onto an already expensive room for the area just added insult onto injury and the check-out clerk was NOT pleasant when I asked why this pet was added after the fact and could the pet fee be removed, as it was not mentioned anywhere. The clerk just responded with a definitve "NO". In the future we will probably bypass this location for one that is less expensive and has full disclosure of rates.Through a bizarre chain of circumstances we got stuck in Gila Bend for two nights. The rooms themselves are as clean as you can get anything that old, and the little fridge worked. The rooms are equipped with pre-World War II window air conditioners, and the two days we were in Gila Bend the temperature was 114 and 115, so in summer expect the a/c to run loudly and continuously, although, to be fair, it does cool the room.
